I am planning on doing the Original Historical Athens Marathon on November 8th and felt that since this is such a monumental event that maybe it was the time to do a BLOG. Every year since 2007 I have done something on the extreme side and as many of my family and friends know I always get asked the same question..."Do you have a Blog?"...well here it is.
After talking it over with Glenn and my family and friends it was decided that this would be a once in a lifetime opportunity that I could not pass up. So I began training for this in March and besides a few tight muscles and running shoe issues it has been progressing on schedule.
Glenn has been very supportive through all this and rides his bike with me on every training session I have. This training has consumed our lives and has at times becomes frustrating, but I know that without Glenn's support and dedication to this training I would not be where I am today. I would also like to thank all my family and friends who continue to support me with their words of encouragement and amazement. I appreciate each and everyone of you and I can't thank all of you enough.
While I am thanking Glenn, my family and friends there are a few others that I really need to single out because without their diligence and knowledge in this sports it takes more than moral support it also takes body support. First would be Ryan at Runner's Fit in Braselton - without him assisting me with the "right" shoes and the right fit I would not be able to run the first mile in comfort. Next would be Peggy Winney my friend and Masseuse - with out her relaxing "buffing" machine and her two hour massages I would be very sore. Then there is Broson and Wallace at the Sports Lab in Roswell - at times they forget that I am not a tough football player and leave me with bruises, but they both have tons of knowledge in their field and keep me on the right track. Last be not least would be Keith Elmore - after my first marathon last year I contacted him and we worked together for 4months and he helped me get my head straight and showed me what it felt like to reach that limit just before puke with speed sprints.
In closing, running a marathon requires so much more than just lacing up a pair of running shoes and going out for long runs every other weekend. It requires dedication to run in all sorts of weather, giving up your social life, leaning on others when you don't think you can go on, and having your own personal entourage. Thank you all you are doing this with me and I appreciate each of you.
Thank you,
Deanna
